Trellis School is hiring an Intern Teacher.  The Intern Teacher works closely with an experienced Special Educator in order to gain valuable hands-on experience in a classroom setting. As an Intern Teacher you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of students and staff while collaborating with the teaching staff to create a positive and engaging educational environment.  Intern Teachers are not the teacher of record and will work under the supervision and guidance of experienced teaching staff. This role provides an excellent opportunity for aspiring educators to gain practical experience and contribute to the academic success of students while preparing for a future teaching career.

 

The Trellis School  is a K-12 non-public school serving children with autism based in Sparks, MD (Baltimore County).  

Responsibilities

  • Assist Special Educator in observing instructor/learner pairs during NET/ITT sessions and demonstrate, explain, and support the use of effective instructional procedures
  • Seek support of Director of Curriculum Development and Special Educator when needed after employing known strategies
  • Follow through on instructional recommendations made by Director of Curriculum Development and/or Special Educator
  • Complete classroom administrative tasks (attendance, goal sheet preparation, schedule updates, behavior graphing, etc.) as assigned by Director of Curriculum Development and/or Special Educator 
  • Assist Special Educator in conducting NET plan reviews and data sheet reviews for each learner
  • Assist Special Educator in completing binder reviews 
  • Assist Special Educator in conducting educational assessments when ordered by IEP team and write reports Materials preparation for group activities or individual learners if necessary
  • Be an active participant in team meetings/ high profile meetings for students
  • Attend IEP meetings where appropriate
  • Support general school procedures: such as arrival, lunch schedules, dismissal, cleaning tasks, field trips, etc.
  • Provide and model 1:1 instruction for learners
  • Plan for and provide group instruction as assigned by the Director of Curriculum Development and/or Special Educator
  • Working towards a standard/provisional license within MSDE guidelines
  • Maintain current first aid/CPR certification
  • Demonstrate positive work ethic by actively seeking student growth and offering suggestions for program improvement
  • Demonstrate professionalism when working with other staff members and parents
  • Attend School-Wide professional development
  • Attend 1:1 trainings with the Director of Curriculum Development

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2 years of experience in a school setting/autism experience
